According to a report on the global development of micro LED industry patent technology by WitDisplay, a South Korean tech media outlet, based on data from the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), although South Korea still leads in the total number of patents, it is the Mainland China region that is "soaring to new heights" in terms of the growth rate and increment of related patents from 2013 to 2023.
The report states that from 2013 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of global Micro LED patents is as follows: Mainland China (37.5%, 1st), European Union (10.0%, 2nd), Taiwan (9.9%, 3rd), South Korea (4.4%, 4th), and the United States (4.1%, 5th), ranking first to fifth respectively.Looking at the stock as of 2023, South Korea has the largest share, accounting for 23.2% (1,567 items, ranking first). Following closely behind is Japan, with 20.1% (1,360 items, 2nd place), China with 18.0% (1,217 items, 3rd place), the United States with 16.0% (1,080 items, 4th place), and the European Union with 11.0% (750 items, 5th place).
